New York, I Love You.
Finished watching the film not too long ago and I have to say, it kind of brought me home. I wish it did literally, otherwise I wouldn’t have been near tears, filled with nostalgia. With that said, the film was made quite well. However, we’ll begin with the negatives then work our way out of that. There were a few loopholes in the stories. Not all of them made a whole lot of sense, if any at all. Seems like some characters and the stories they had seemed to have been forced in, disguised behind pretty actors and the beautiful sceneries of New York, only to mask their lack of purpose. Despite that, there were more positives than the opposite. As in, they were enough to make me forget all of the uselessness by making me fall in love with the city all over again without me actually being there. (Which made me sadder, by the way.) It captured a few of my most favorite things about New York: perfect strangers, people-watching, folks being lonely together, the artists, children, crossing the bridge from Brooklyn to Manhattan… Yes, even from the little things. From the tiny details to the actual people behind the stories, it was very lovely and well-told. Though despite that, I was kept wanting to learn more about what happened to the people after where they left off. In other words, the audience ends up developing close relationships with the characters because the movie digs beneath the surface of their personalities. They’re relatable. Though if not, they’re at least real because those people are all around us. Hell, they are us. New Yorkers, at least.
Thumbs up, this one gets a recommendation from me. ;)
