What’s in a name?

I get this question all the time. All. The. Time. “How’d you get Nix as a nickname?” Well, here’s an answer.

I was born Veronica Therese. Some people either usually get it right away or they roll their eyes and just go along with it. My big sister Kim pretty much started the amazingness that is ‘Nics’ when I was still a baby. Veronica is too long, and only my mom calls me that, but only when she’s bitchin angry at me. (It’s been a while since I’ve heard it, by the way. Thank God.)

Veronica -> Nics -> Nix

Eventually when I grew a little older (maybe around at the age of 10+) I shortened it to Nix. Easier to write, quicker to write, and a lot catchier. So, no. I didn’t just make it up to be “cool”. I’ve been Nix for as long as I can remember, and rarely was I really called Veronica. People also often ask me why I don’t like being called that. Because A, like I mentioned, only my raging parents are allowed to. B, when someone calls me Veronica, it’s never good news. People usually associate my real name with the occasional bitch fit. Never pretty. And C, if I have new teachers that I haven’t (“politely”) corrected yet, they call me Veronica at first. But you, me, and everyone else I know calls me Nix. Let’s keep it that way. You’re not my mother. ;)
